skype integrat in meniul de status

NETESTAT

SKYPE STATUS MENU INTEGRATION, RIGHTHOTCORNER AND MODIFIED WEATHER GNOME SHELL EXTENSIONS

It's time for some more GNOME Shell extensions: Skype Status Menu integration, RightHotCorner and a modified weather extension. Read on!

Skype Status Menu GNOME Shell extension

The first one is a Skype GNOME Shell extension that you can use to set your Skype presence with current system presence. So when you set your status to "Busy" via the GNOME Shell Status Menu, your status is also changed in Skype:

Status Menu - GNOME Shell

To install the extension, firstly install GIT and then run the following commands in a terminal:
cd
git clone https://github.com/MrTheodor/gnome-shell-ext.git
mv SkypeNotification@krajniak.info/ ~/.local/share/gnome-shell/extensions/
rm -rf gnome-shell-ext

RightHotCorner GNOME Shell extension

Right Hot Corner GNOME Shell extension

RightHotCorner is a GNOME Shell extension that lets you use the upper right corner as a hot spot for triggering the Activities overview. I for one find this very useful because when I don't use the mouse, it's usually somewhere on the right (because that's where the scrollbar is) so moving it all the way to the left to open the Activities overview doesn't feel natural.

Download RightHotCorner extension - to use, extract it under ~/.local/share/gnome-shell/extensions/

You can disable the ripple effect if you want, by editing the "extension.js" file and modifying the "const SHOW_RIPPLE" value from "true" to "false".

For me, using the original value used by the extension didn't work properly so I've doubled the hot spot value from 5 to 10. If that's also the case for you, open extension.js and change the Clutter.Group and Clutter.Rectangle values for both width and height from 5 to something larger.

Thanks to fpmurphy for the tip and extension tweaks.

Modified GNOME Shell Weather extension

And the last extension in today's post: a GNOME Shell weather extension modified by WebUpd8 reader rAX to use symbolic (monochrome) icons. He also removed the current conditions from the panel (the original extension displays something like: "Partially cloudy, 28 C" on the panel while the modified extension displays an icon only) and moved it from the center to the upper right corner of the top panel.

Here's a screenshot with the modified GNOME Shell weather extension:

And here is how the original extension looks like:

Update: the original weather extension now uses monochrome icons too. For instructions on how to compile it, see here.

Download GNOME Shell Weather extension modified by rAX - to use it, extract it to~/.local/share/gnome-shell/extensions/ (remove the original extension if it's already installed). Then, remember to edit the extension and add your Yahoo Weather ID like explained HERE.

Thanks to rAX for the modified weather extension and screenshot!

As always, I've tested all these extensions under Fedora 15 but I cannot guarantee they will work for you too so use them at your own risk!

More GNOME Shell extensions.

in sfarsit gnome shell in repositories 11.10 oneiric

GNOME SHELL IS FINALLY AVAILABLE IN THE UBUNTU 11.10 ONEIRIC OCELOT REPOSITORIES [ONEIRIC UPDATES]

GNOME Shell is now available in the official Ubuntu 11.10 Oneiric Ocelot repositories, along with most of the GNOME 3 applications (Gedit 3, Nautilus 3 Evolution and so on; some of them are available for quite some time - like Nautilus, while some were uploaded recently - like Gedit or Evolution).

Note for those who are not up to date with everything that's going on in Ubuntu: GNOME Shell is not and won't be installed by default in Ubuntu 11.10 Oneiric Ocelot. However, Ubuntu 11.10 will use GNOME 3 with Unity instead of GNOME Shell.

GNOME Shell 3 (3.0.1) was uploaded about three days ago and the GNOME 3 sessionfinally arrived yesterday. Here's a screenshot featuring GNOME Shell running in Ubuntu 11.10 Oneiric Ocelot:

GNOME Shell Ubuntu 11.10 Oneiric Ocelot screenshot
(No, that's not the Ubuntu 11.10 Oneiric Ocelot default theme; I've used a different theme because Ambiance doesn't support GTK3 for now as you will see in some of the screenshots in this post)

After these updates, a "GNOME classic" session is available in the login screen, but it will probably be removed soon (because according to Mark Shuttleworth,  there won't be a classic GNOME session in Ubuntu 11.10 - Unity 2D will be used as the fallback mode instead):

This is how the "GNOME classic" session looks like:

Here's an Ubuntu 11.10 Oneiric Ocelot Unity screenshot:

Another Unity screenshot, this time using a theme that supports GTK3:

And here's Unity 2D too:

Later update: AppMenu (Global Menu) with GTK3 support was uploaded a few minutes ago (the package isn't available as an update yet - it's still waiting in the "new" queue):

Ubuntu 11.10 global menu appmenu

Important: Ubuntu 11.10 Oneiric Ocelot is currently in very early development stages (it didn't even reach alpha 1!) so a lot of things will change. Also, the theme looks broken because Ambiance (the default Ubuntu theme) hasn't been ported GTK3 yet.

Thanks to Dmitry Shachnev for the tip!

ORTA AND DRAKFIRE CAFFE: AMAZING NEW GNOME SHELL THEMES (BONUS: 2X DRAKFIRE GTK3 THEMES)

A few more GNOME Shell and GTK3 themes are available for those who are using GNOME 3. And they look amazing as always:

Orta GNOME Shell theme (available with both a light and drak panel) (download):

Orta GNOME Shell Theme

Installing the Orta And DrakFire Caffe GNOME Shell themes

Download Orta GNOME Shell themes pack (comes with Orta light and dark) |Download DrakFire Caffe GNOME Shell theme

A. Without using using a GNOME Shell extension:

1. Back up the /usr/share/gnome-shell/theme folder

2. You must extract the theme under /usr/share/gnome-shell, merging the "theme" with the/usr/share/gnome-shell/theme folder. If the downloaded theme folder is called "gnome-shell", rename it to "theme" firstly.

B. Using ThemeSelector GNOME Shell extension

Warning: the instructions below are for ThemeSelecor 0.9 - instructions where to copy the extension files have changed - see the "Install the Themeselector GNOME Shell extension" part of the ThemeSelector: GNOME Shell Extension To Change Themes (With Previews) post again to install the latest version!

For Orta: place both Orta directories (gs-orta and gs-orta-dark) in the  ~/.themes/ folder.

For DrakFire Caffe: rename the extracted folder which initially is called "theme" to "gnome-shell" and place this folder under ~/.themes/DrakFire/

For the ThemeSelector extension to be able to pick up the themes, you need to download some metadata files and a preview. I've set up these for you so everything will be done automatically by copying/pasting the commands below:

Orta:
cd ~/.themes/gs-orta/gnome-shell/
wget http://webupd8.googlecode.com/files/orta.tar.gz
tar -xvf orta.tar.gz

Orta Dark:
cd ~/.themes/gs-orta-dark/gnome-shell/
wget http://webupd8.googlecode.com/files/orta-dark.tar.gz
tar -xvf orta-dark.tar.gz

DrakFire Caffe:
cd ~/.themes/DrakFire/gnome-shell/
wget http://webupd8.googlecode.com/files/drakfire.tar.gz
tar -xvf drakfire.tar.gz

Because ThemeSelector doesn't look too well with more then 6 themes (3 themes on a row), mofiy it so 4 themes (or more) show up on a row. To display 4 themes on a row, use the following command:

sed -i 's/let numColumns = 3/let numColumns = 6/' ~/.local/share/gnome-shell/extensions/themeselector@fpmurphy.com/extension.js

Here's a ThemeSelector GNOME Shell extension screenshot:

Themeselector

Now reload GNOME Shell (press ALT + F2 and enter "r") or log out and log back in and select a new theme from the ThemeSelector.

Install DrakFire Caffe and Adwaita DrakFire Caffe GTK3 themes

Download DrakFire Caffe GTK3 theme | Download Adwaita Drakfire Caffe GTK3 theme

Note: GTK 3 themes won't work if you've installed GNOME Shell using jhbuild (it will only work if you're running the full GNOME 3).

To install these two GTK3 themes, download and extract them under /usr/share/themes/ folder. It seems The DrakFire Caffe themes doesn't work without a "gtk-2.0" folder so copy this folder from Adwaita DrakFire Caffe to the DrakFire Caffe theme folder.

Tip: to get the minimize button on the left and close button on the right like in the screenshots, run this command:
gconftool-2 -s -t string /desktop/gnome/shell/windows/button_layout "minimize:close"

Then reload GNOME Shell (press ALT + F2 and enter "r").
